Forgetaboutit

Ok Cathy. Time for a new type of quiz. This is an attempt to simulate a real world sports conversation. Imagine you are talking to Kurt and he says one of the following lines. What would your reply be. You are not allowed to use any reference materials. Ready Begin!

1) Have you seen what's going on with the Blackhawks?
2) Who do you like in the game tonight(Monday)?
3) Can you believe Northern isn't ranked #1?
4) Have you seen my pants? I think that monkey stole them.

Anyone out there can feel free to help Cathy by commenting on the post. I will grade her answers and give my response in an update to this post. Good Luck!!!

---------------Cathy's Answers-----------------
1.) "Things just aren't going as planned."
2.) "If the Bears aren't playing, does it really matter."
3.) "Are year will come, not to worry."
4.) First thing to come to my mind, "God damn monkey!!" Then I thought,
"Kurt, you have a great ass, don't worry about the pants." - Can you
actually see me saying it though?

---------------Grade--------------------------
F-. Let's start at 1 and move to four.

1.) "Things just aren't going as planned."

Things are not going as planned. They are actually winning. They plan was for them to lose and I could laugh at $bill Wirtz while telling him where to stick his season tickets. The correct response is "Give them time, they will start sucking soon"

2.) "If the Bears aren't playing, does it really matter."

This is the close to correct. I would have also excepted "I can't wait for the new episode of Wife Swap on ABC"

3.) "Are year will come, not to worry."

Points off for grammer. Our year will not come. The answer to this will help you out in many sports situations. When somebody makes a statment about how great or how bad some team is all you have to say is "You're on crack"

I think Cricket is the greatest game ever invented -- "You're on crack"
I think Nebraska will win the national title -- "You're on crack"
The Cubs would win a world series if they would just let lollar manage -- "You're on crack"

4) ----can't repeat your comment ----

Here is where you lost the most points. First of all, monkeys are great. Everything they do is awsome.(Especially the hockey monkey ) Second of all the words "great", "ass", and "kurt" must never be used in the same sentence. I think that is in the MSL style book. I guess you could use it if you said "Wasn't it great when that monkey shot kurt in the ass with a dart gun"

Your GPA has been lowered to 0.36. I'm calling your parents.

Orioles, Ryders, and Bears. Oh My!

Ok. Time for weekend homework. Nothing too hard here just current events. I know. I'm giving new homework without an answer to the last assignment. -10 points for questioning me! Here we go!

1) Who won the Ryder Cup?
2) Did the bears win?
3) What happened at the Orioles game on Thursday?

-------------------Cathy's Answer----------------
1.) The Europeans totally won the Ryder Cup, and sad to say but the
Americans didn't have prayer. Although, I tried to figure out how the
scoring worked, and it's beyond me. This halves, and 2 # 3, business, yeah,
I don't get it. So, I know I'll get graded down for that, but please know
that I tried.
2.) The Bears WON!!! This is sooo exciting, it's the first time since 1991
that we've had a 3-0 wins in the first three games. And Grossman isn't hurt.
I think he's my new favorite player, for one, he's way hotter than Urlaker,
and two, he's been the underdog and everyone is waiting for him to get hurt.
So, maybe he shouldn't be my favorite player, I might be bad luck. Anyway,
he didn't have a great day, but Gould's kicking and the teamwork pulled them
through. I think they're in for a good season.
3) So at the Orioles game on Thursday about 1000 fans
walked out at 5:08, the time signifies Brooks Robinson (No. 5) and Cal
Ripken (No. 8)former star players. They were protesting Angelos, the owner,
I think, and his piss poor ownership skills. The poor team has had a losing
streak of coming on 9 years. I think it might be time to rethink some
things, but what do I know, I'm just a nurse. And I think this is what these
fans were thinking. The protest was organized by Nestor Aparicio, owner of
radio station WNST-AM and the nephew of former Oriole shortstop Luis
Aparicio. They were trying to get between 3000-10,000 fans but that didn't
work out. But they had enough to make their point, and that's what's
important.

-------------------Grade-------------------
A+ you get 104.3%

You actually get extra points for not understanding the scoring system of the Ryder Cup. It's like the metric system. Nobody understands it and it is of no use to us. The Bears did win but it was close. They played like crap. Next week will be a tough game. Good work on the Orioles. I would have also accepted "Who cares about the Orioles? They will never beat Boston and the God Damn Yankees!!!"

The Designated Hitter Rule

Ok Cathy, today's homework is from the infamous dlewis.

1) What is the designated hitter rule?
2) Do you think it is a good or bad thing?
3) why?

-----------------------Cathy's Answer-------------------
1.) A designated hitter is someone who traditionally, since 1973, in the AL, bats for the pitcher. It's slightly different for non-professional teams.
2.) I think it is a bad idea
3.) because it was made up due to the fact that the offensive teams sucked at the time, 1973.

---------------------------Grade-------------------------
B+. good work on1 and 2. For 3, I would have said that it bastardizes the integrity of the game. If everyone did this you wouldn't get Kerry hitting a home run on his first game back from Tommy johns. You wouldn't get Dontrell Willis hitting 2 home runs in one game. And the American league sucks.

--------------------------Update--------------------------
A-. Good work

...and so it begins!

So I was having so much fun teaching my sister-in-law the basics of sports I decide to start this blog to let others join in the fun. Basically she gets (almost)daily homework. Homework usually consists of a few questions about current sporting events. The questions are designed to keep her current and help her form opinions about different sports topics. Feel free to shoot me an email if you would like Cathy to answer a question or if you think there is a topic she should know about.

Good Luck Cathy!!!
